STEM in the Community – Summer Edition is a fringe event of Tauranga STEM Festival with several fun hands-on activities and a STEM Open Day taking place at Basestation, 148 Durham Street, Tauranga during the summer holidays.

There will be something for the whole family to enjoy!

Artificial Intelligence made easy! With Cucumber

Let’s build our very own Artificial Intelligence program writing few lines of code! You don’t need to have any previous coding experience to participate in this workshop, just a ton curiosity and passion for learning new things.

This is a super fun and interactive workshop where you are the scientist performing experiments using items that can be found in the pantry at home.

Girls night out!: Inspiring Women who changed the world with tech. With Xero

A workshop for girls (ages 8 – 14) and a wahine from their whānau (ie, mums, older sisters, aunties, grandmas etc) that showcase some of the pioneering women in tech, and inspire the next generation of girls to follow in their footsteps. Alongside this we will look at how to set our young wahine up for success, ensuring they are confident and brave enough to be the change makers and disruptors of the future.

Build your own robot! with Kiwibots

Kiwibots is excited to offer this workshop to inspire and empower the next generation of innovators and creative thinkers! Over an hour of STEM fun your child will work in a team and engage in building, driving and coding a robot.

Create a circuit map of Aotearoa with STEAM-ED

In this workshop students will be learning how to construct a basic circuit. Students will be learning how to use a solder iron to solder their circuits together. When students have completed this workshop they will be able to take home their Map of New Zealand game. The aim of the game is to match the regions of New Zealand up with the name on the side of the map, when the right region is matched up with the right name, a buzzer will sound and a LED light will flash to indicate you have matched the right place up.

STEM Open Day is an engaging and interactive day with several hands-on activities that will inspire experimentation and exploration for all ages. A play and learn environment makes way for sparking curiosity and exploration.

Vaccination Status

All attendees (children and adults) must be fully vaccinated (if eligible) in order to attend any of our events and present an official valid vaccine certificate on the day of the workshop for verification. Wearing a face mask during the workshop for 12 years old and over is encouraged.

All children MUST be accompanied and supervised by an adult during the entire session.
