STEMFest 2025 Quiet Space: Visitor Guidelines
How to Use the Quiet Space
Welcome to the STEMFest 2025 Quiet Space!
This dedicated room, created in partnership with Spectrum Connections Charitable Trust, is here to provide a calm and supportive environment for neurodivergent children and their families. Please review the following guidelines to help us ensure a peaceful, inclusive, and respectful experience for all.
Where & When
- Date: Sunday, 28 September 2025
- Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Closed for staff break from 12:30 to 1:00 PM)
- Location: Indoor classroom at UOW on Durham Street – look for signage!
Accessing the Quiet Space
- Maps and directions are available onsite and online.
- Wheelchair accessible entrance provided.
Inside the Quiet Space
- Maximum capacity: 10 people (up to 5 children, 5 caregivers) at a time.
- Each family/group may use the space for up to 15 minutes at a time (subject to demand).
- Each child must be accompanied by an adult (over 18). Maximum 2 children per adult.
- Sensory-friendly furniture and toys: bean bags, mats, fidget toys, and colouring supplies are available.
- Free Wi-Fi (BYOD) and calming lighting provided.
- Supervised by two trained staff or volunteers.
Respectful Use Guidelines
- Keep noise to a minimum to maintain a tranquil atmosphere for all visitors.
- Use sensory toys and furniture gently and share with others.
- Food and drinks are not permitted (except for water bottles).
- Leave the space as you found it; tidy up after use and dispose of any rubbish responsibly.
- Be considerate of time limits during busy periods so others can also benefit from the Quiet Space.
- Ask a staff member if you need help or support at any time.
Health & Safety
- Staff are trained to assist neurodivergent individuals and follow emergency procedures.
- First aiders are stationed nearby; emergency exits are clearly marked.
- All surfaces and shared materials are regularly cleaned and sanitised.
